What have you been up to since you graduated?
Carol and Carl married on December 24, 1965. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University in August, 1966 with a BA, an MA in 1970, and an Ed.D in Education Administration from Baylor University. They have 2 children and 4 granddaughters, the light of their lives. While in Florida, Carl taught elementary school. In 1970, they moved to Texas. Carl went into school administration in Texas and they moved to various areas of the state, literally from border to border. In 1989, he was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration and continued to work as a school superintendent and finally as a college professor at UT Permian Basin. He still works mentoring graduate students, with the help of screen readers and Carol!
Carol got her RN from Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. She received her BSN and Master’s work from the UT System. Most of her nursing was as a Director of Nursing in both large and small hospitals. Her favorite job was as a school nurse in a very, very small West Texas town where she collaborated with Texas Tech University and established a school based community clinic. There were no other medical services for forty miles. She remembers removing a lot of fish hooks, but most hilarious was the birthing of a colt!
They have retired in Grapevine, Texas in a one hundred year old house. Carl can walk all over with his cane and not get too lost! You may find him volunteering at the local Methodist Church Thrift Shop, or if you are really lucky, singing a solo in the Men’s Choir on Sunday. Carol will be behind the wheel driving someone, somewhere, or babysitting, probably a combination.
